About
I created Serenity Counselling Services after six years counselling in a variety of settings including public schools, universities, and counselling agencies. Mental health has always been a passion of mine ever since I began my bachelor’s degree in Psychology at St. Thomas University.
I always had a passion to work with Adolescents, so I received my Education Degree. While working as a teacher, I realized that I did not have the desired time to work one-on-one with students who needed additional support. It was then that I decided to go back and take my master’s in education (specializing in Counselling Psychology) from the University of New Brunswick. I completed my internship in a university setting which garnered me the experience of working with a wide variety of clients who faced many different issues.
I am a fully qualified Counselling Therapist in the province of New Brunswick and my services are covered by most health care plans. I am able to work with individuals one-on-one or couples and have a great deal of experience working with both adolescents as well as adults.
I believe that everyone is an expert in their own life story. As such, I adapt my therapeutic approach on the individual needs of the client. One model that I draw from is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) due to the amount of empirical research that supports it’s success with clients suffering from a wide range of issues including: sleeping difficulties, relationship problems, drug and alcohol abuse as well as anxiety and depression. Using the Emotionally Focused Therapy model I am also adept at working with couples. My various techniques are client focused and have been seen by many to be supportive, approachable, and highly therapeutic.
